How to design an external transparent wrapping model

When placing an order for a full-color model with an external transparent wrapping on JLC3DP, you need to provide the external transparent model file and the internal color model file separately. Through the Boolean difference operation between the external transparent model and the internal color model, a model with a transparent shell wrapping the internal hollow structure is finally formed.

1. Design preparation

Design of external transparent model: The shape of the external transparent model can be customized, without special requirements, and it can completely wrap the internal color model

Design of internal color model: Design the built-in color model, which can be a complex structure and should be completely located within the transparent external model, not overlapping with the external transparent shell, and appropriately scaled and adjusted according to design requirements.

2. Boolean operation

Boolean difference: In the 3D design software, perform a Boolean difference operation on the external transparent model and the internal color model.

The specific steps are: select the external transparent model as the main model. Select the internal color model as the difference model. A new model is obtained through Boolean difference operation, in which the space inside the transparent model has formed a hollow part according to the shape of the color model.

3. Check the model

Thickness adjustment: Adjust the thickness of the transparent shell according to the needs to ensure that the model has sufficient strength during 3D printing while maintaining the transparent effect as much as possible.

4. JLC3DP Printing Settings

JLC3DP's multi-material 3D printer supports printing external transparent model and interal color model at the same time, realizing complex multi-material designs. Transparent photosensitive resin is used for external models to improve the smoothness and visual effect of transparent parts. WJP full-color 3D printing technology is used for internal color models, which can not only achieve gradient color transitions, but also accurately restore images and textures without post-coloring processing.

In the post-processing stage, JLC3DP further enhances the smoothness of transparent parts through grinding, polishing and transparent spraying, so that they can achieve higher transparency.
