One of the most common materials of FDM (Fused Deposition Modelling) 3D printing technology is PLA Plastic. This biodegradable material is made from natural materials, like corn starch, maize, or sugarcane. In its pure form, PLA is generally considered food-safe, as there are no toxic chemicals in the polymer itself, as studies show.

💡 Tip: For food-contact items such as cookie cutters or juice squeezers, use uncoloured PLA filament to avoid any unwanted additives. Natural PLA typically has a yellowish translucent look, and packaging should indicate whether it is dyed or not.
